4    Packing Dishware
When packing your Dishes, be sure to pack them on their edges instead of packing them flat. The edge is the strongest part of the plate! Packing with White Paper is better than Newspaper as it can leave non-removable ink stains on your dishware.

5    Nuts & Bolts
Pack all of your loose furniture parts into plastic bags (i.e. – Bed parts, Tables, Entertainment Center Hinges, etc.).

6    Staying Organized

9    Cleaning Products

10   Quilted Padding

11    Final Walk Through
On your Move Out Day – Make a Final walk through to be sure the movers took everything.

12    Checking Inventory
It’s a good idea to have 2 people present upon delivery. One person to check the inventory list with the driver as your shipment is being unloaded and the other to direct the movers as to where your items should be placed inside your new home.

13    Booking Flights
Do not book any flights or appointments on your pick up or delivery dates.

14    Empty Drawers
Dressers & Cabinets must be completely emptied to avoid damages or breakage of your furniture.

15    Baby Cribs
For Safety Regulations, Most Moving Companies will not reassemble baby cribs. Please be sure to have a knowledgeable person to assist you in doing so.

16    Keep Everyone Updated
It is important to keep everyone involved in the move updates (i.e. – Move Out Dates, Closings, Delivery Dates, Inventory List, Packing Needed, etc.)

17    Building Restrictions
It is important to check with your building management for Building Restrictions. Some are but not limited to: Elevator Reservations, Pick-up Times, Parking Restrictions, Truck Clearance and/or require a Certificate of Insurance, etc.

18    Chilled Water
Please know that the Movers are working hard, it is greatly appreciated to have some chilled water or soda available.

It’s Spring. The time of revival. Nothing says “life” and “renewal” like new flowering house plants. I have never come across an apartment that didn’t look better or feel more “homey” with growing plants. Which is why when I worked for a landlord many years ago, I would always dress up the model apartment with lots of plants and flowers. And it worked! We suggested looking into Brooklyn apartments that will fit this renter’s budget.

not to use his name for this post. The problem is his budget. He’s come to RDNY.com because he knows he can save almost two month’s of rent by not having to pay a broker’s fee. But it looks more an more like Manhattan is off limits to renters with budgets up to $1,100 per month. We sympathize and have suggested he check out the Ft. Washington/Inwood area and the boroughs. He can find decent housing in the Bronx, Queens, or Brooklyn, but even there, his budget will put him in second tier neighborhoods. What concerns us is that students are having a harder and harder time finding a place in Manhattan. Manhattan, and all of NYC will lose out if young, bright students can’t live here any longer.

I have lived on the West Coast all of my life, but I think that it is time to make a change. I got accepted into a great performance arts school and I am looking for apartments for rent in Manhattan. I have not been having a lot of luck, and I am not exactly sure why.

The first few places I saw were well within my price range, but the quality of the apartments left a lot to be desired. I want a place that I can walk into and feel at home. I should not get the impression that bugs and rodents have as much of a say as I do about the way the place is

If not, I will end up getting a realtor. If worse comes to worse I will take my mom’s suggestion and look into getting a roommate, but I want to avoid that option for as long as possible.

Brooklyn apartments in a lovely brownstone.

published, and the advance I received is more than enough for me to get a classy, new place. I thought about staying in Brooklyn, but I think I like the idea of being closer to the center of everything. My budget is not limitless, so I have to be careful when on the hunt for apartments for rent in Manhattan.

A few weeks ago I went to look at this fantastic place that was located in Harlem. It was in a renovated brownstone and it had all of the bells and whistles. I think like most people I had a bad view of this area of the city, but I see that it has grown a lot in recent years. The only issue I had with the brownstone is that it was a bit out of my price range. I tried to talk to the owner about negotiating the price, but he would not budge at all.

The next place I looked at was on 32nd street. This place was okay, but I didn’t like the fact that the unit did not have a lot of natural lighting. Of course I could go out if I really wanted to have direct sunlight, but I feel that I should get that for the price that I am willing to pay. There are too many apartments for rent in Manhattan for me to settle for something like that.

The next two places I looked at were absolutely perfect. I am having a hard time trying to decide which one I want. They are both a few blocks from Times Square, in high-rise buildings and within my target price range. There are a lot of amenities offered by each one, and that is why I am having a difficult time trying to decide. I am supposed to go see them both again next week, because my husband should be a part of this decision.

I am not sure if he will like either of my choices. If not, I will continue looking at apartments for rent in Manhattan until I find the right one.

The issue that you raised is one that many people would like to have – how to select the right apartment when you have choices. You seem to be all over the place in terms of what you want. First, you’re interested in a Harlem brownstone then you’re interested in a modern high rise in the heart of the City with lots of amenities. It sounds to me like either apartment would work for you, so the real choice is neighborhood. Forget about everything else. Just try to envision yourself in both locations. Which one will you enjoy more? Which one is more convenient for you? Which location lets you have the lifestyle you’d like to enjoy? When you answer those questions, you’ll know which apartment to rent. And thank you for your letter.
