Getting from your Brooklyn apartment to either Midtown Manhattan or Lower Manhattan can be a relaxing interlude in your day when you travel by ferry instead of subway.
East River ferry service, operated by NY Waterway, makes seven regular stops along the East River, which links to residential high rises at Hunter’s Point South in Long Island City and Schaefer Landing at South Williamsburg. The ferry will also make stops at East 34th Street, India Street in Greenpoint, North Fifth and North Sixth Streets in North Williamsburg, Wall Street at Pier 11 and Brooklyn Bridge Park/DUMBO.

One of the downsides of apartment rentals in Brooklyn or Queens was the commute to Manhattan. Subways can be crowded and not very pleasant. On the other hand, if you can find your apartment for rent near one of the East River ferries, your commute is far more pleasant. It’s like an enforced 15 minutes “time out” during the day. The view is wonderful, the motion of the water is relaxing, and sipping a cup of coffee along the ride turns your daily commute into a mini-vacation at the start and end of your day.
It’s enough to make you WANT to live in Brooklyn or Queens.
