Are you as fascinated with Mad Men‘s vintage fashion and home decor? The first word out of my mouth when I saw their new Manhattan apartment rental was, “groovy, baby!”. The apartment is stylish and chic, in a 1960′s way.
According to set designer Claudette Didul, apartment 17-B is an Upper East Side high rise with a white carpeted sunken living room and a fascinating fireplace and a Case Study-style kitchen with two pass-through windows.
There are walnut cabinets, one with a built in TV set and the very latest push button phone. There are Don’s manly appointments, such as his high-tech gadgets (for that time) a hi-fi, leather lounge chair, and counter-top cocktail bar with a drum-shaped ice bucket. Don likes the clean, uncluttered modern lines that he shares with his new wife, Megan. Megan like the youthful colors.
As a real estate professional, I naturally wonder how much in rent Don pays. The show hasn’t revealed that yet. I also wonder if there is a Manhattan apartment for rent that still looks like that. I doubt it. The next time I look for an apartment rental in Manhattan, my eye will be searching for the kind of place Don would have wanted to live in.
