New Yorkers have always needed to get around town – especially when they need to find a great no fee apartment rental.

Now that the shameless plug for RDNY.com is over, you should really visit a treasure trove of wonderful photos and history of the NYC transit system.

The collection of transit maps visually displays the growth of the city. It brings you back to the days when the subways were known as the IND line (Independent Line), the BMT (Brooklyn – Manhattan Transit System) and the IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit System). Be sure to also check out their collection of photos of trolleys and now defunct short rail lines.

Then wander over to this page. This is the Transit Authority’s link to other subway and train systems in the US and around the world.
